Removal of the green sticker: what changes for temporary insurance

Since 1 April 2024, displaying the green sticker on the windscreen is no longer mandatory: law enforcement now checks a vehicle's insurance directly via the Insured Vehicles File (FVA).

What replaces the green card

For a temporary contract, the digital certificate sent by e-mail or WhatsApp after subscription plays this role: it shows the period of validity, the insured vehicle and the insurer, and can be shown printed or on a smartphone during a check.

What doesn't change

Temporary cover still runs from 1 to 90 days, and third-party liability remains mandatory from the very first kilometre. Keep an ID document, the registration certificate and your insurance certificate on board.
