Border insurance: for vehicles registered abroad
TempAssur border insurance allows a vehicle registered anywhere in the world (outside the 35 covered countries) to drive legally in France and 35 European countries.
You receive an international motor insurance card (“Green Card”) to show at checks and when crossing borders.
1. Which vehicles is it for?
Border insurance is for you if your vehicle is registered in a country outside the 35 covered countries. It accepts registrations from all over the world, for example:
- North Africa: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia
- Turkey and the Balkans: Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Moldova…
- Africa: Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Cameroon…
- Middle East, Asia, the Americas: Lebanon, United States, Canada…
Is your vehicle registered in France or Europe?
In that case, you do not need border insurance. If your vehicle is registered in one of the 35 countries below, choose temporary insurance.

With your border insurance, your foreign vehicle is covered in all European Union countries:

Your cover also extends to these 8 European countries:

* Cyprus and Serbia: cover is limited to areas controlled by the country’s official government (it does not apply to northern Cyprus or Kosovo).
Total: 27 + 8 = 35 countries covered.
How to read your Green Card
- Box not crossed out: the country is covered.
- Box crossed out: the country is not covered.
4. Countries not covered
Border insurance covers you only in the 35 countries above. It does not cover driving in your country of registration or in other countries outside this list, for example:
Albania · Azerbaijan · Belarus · Iran · Moldova · Morocco · North Macedonia · Russia · Tunisia · Türkiye · Ukraine
For any part of your journey outside the 35 countries, you must be covered by local insurance, taken out in your country of registration or at the border of the country you are crossing.
When should you take it out?
Take out your border insurance before entering the first covered country on your route. Arriving by boat in France, Spain or Italy? Your insurance must be valid from the moment you disembark.
Example: you travel from Algiers to Marseille with a car registered in Algeria. Your border insurance must start on the day you arrive at the port. It covers you in France and in all the European countries on the list for its full duration.
